But what led me here?

My journey started at a very young age - I was just 15, a typical chubby teenager, wondering who I was, bullied throughout school and always picked last for group sports. In my last year of school I ended up bed bound with glandular fever and chronic anxiety.

Of course, I didn’t know it would lead me into becoming an anxiety management specialist or parenting coach at the time, but this was my wake up call to rethink the way I was living.

Growing up, I was an A* student, but inside, I was struggling. My self-worth was low, and I was constantly busy, thinking that if I pushed harder, I could prove my value. I learned to manage everything on the surface, while dealing with crippling worry and internal stress. It wasn’t easy or sustainable. I hit a breaking point when adrenaline was no longer enough to keep me going and my body decided enough was enough . I found myself physically depleted, mentally drained, and questioning how I’d gotten here.

But my real story didn’t begin there. It started long before in my childhood. My parents separated when I was young, and I saw my mum work tirelessly to keep us afloat. She was incredibly independent, always striving to make sure my brothers and I had what we needed. With two older brothers & a busy, overwhelmed mum, I learned early on to fend for myself, often feeling isolated.

I genuinely thought she was superwoman. I never saw her cry or moan, so I figured I had to be the same. I couldn't be weak or ask for help, I just had to "get on with it".

She'd already lost a daughter 10 years before I was born, so became very protective, wrapping me in cotton wool. I spent a lot of time fearful about the big bad world, but also desperate to work hard & make her proud, to ease the load.

I wanted to be the best daughter I could be, all the while losing myself in the process! 

Sound familiar? Wanting to be the best mum, but losing who you are at the same time?!

It was during the following years, through our own family counselling, that I realised how deeply generational patterns and parenting styles shape us. I saw first hand how my mum’s constant stress, despite her best intentions, impacted our family dynamic. The exhaustion and emotional strain trickled down to me, and I knew if I ever had children I wanted to break the cycle of overwhelm and create a healthier, more supportive environment where my children could thrive emotionally, without the same burdens I’d carried.

My mum wasn't superwoman and my dad didn't abandon us, they were as human and imperfect as everyone else. They didn't get a manual to raise kids - because there isn't one. They just tried their best with what they knew!  

This realisation was a light bulb moment for me. I understood how critical it was to address the behaviours and habits that shape family life and the people within it. I wanted to break free from the struggles and guilt that I’d seen in my own family.

So, I began my own journey of healing, personal growth, and self-compassion. I started learning how to prioritize my emotional health, set boundaries, and let go of guilt and perfectionism. I studied attachment theory, child psychology and extensive coaching practices to tackle subconscious behaviour.

t wasn't a straight forward journey when motherhood finally did come. It took a lot of trial and error!

I focused on creating a balanced, resilient environment for my children, but there were still moments of crying on the bathroom floor, whispering to myself how I couldn't do it, and days I dreaded waking up to more tantrums and bargaining because I had ZERO left to give. I thought I'd failed as a mum because I had all the tools, but no idea how to implement them

It was through these harder days that I realised empowered parenting wasn’t about being perfect or doing it all; it was about showing up with intention, understanding, and a commitment to breaking unhealthy cycles. I also realised I'd been just like my own mum, trying to do it all alone and I didn't want other mums to face the same battles solo. I knew if I could make such positive changes and heal the attachments I'd formed, then I wanted it to be possible for others and I wanted to give them the short cuts & real time support throughout!

Now, as a parent coach, my mission is to help others who are struggling with similar challenges. Many of the parents I work with are overwhelmed, trying to juggle everything, but often feeling disconnected, stressed & emotionally drained. I know what it’s like to feel like you have to do it all, but I also know that this pattern doesn’t lead to fulfilment.

EMPOWERED parenting is about breaking free from these cycles, creating healthier family dynamics, and setting a positive example for the next generation. And I truly believe this is how we create lasting change in the world.
